Day 19...

Source: google.com via Kate on Pinterest

So today I got my blood work results from my physical....and my cholesterol is perfect! I even managed to raise my good cholesterol by 4 points. So the whole point of this year is to keep getting healthier with each day. Make small changes in how I eat and what I eat. So today's healthy recipe is...orange breakfast muffins.

One of the few ways to raise good cholesterol is exercise. Yup, let's all say it together...YUCK! "They" say that exercise is good for you and helps to keep you young. That sounds more attractive with every passing year. ;o)

Most of us normal humans enjoy food more than exercise, so it is a struggle until daily exercise becomes an automatic habit. I know I'm not there yet. Besides, I'm not fat, I'm fluffy!

Day 18....

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.

So there was a conversation today about trying to lose weight at work. One of the girls is doing some weird liquid diet to try and lose weight. The worst part of that is she is no where near over weight. She feels that she is bigger than she needs to be. That just doesn't seem like a great way to go about being a healthy weight. I am doing it by changing my eating habits a tiny bit at a time. It took me a long time to get unhealthy, I figure it will take me a while to get healthy again. I'm making small changes in what and how I eat. My biggest problem is that I don't really get hungry that often. I was born that way though. As a kid my mom was constantly taking me to the pediatrician because I didn't eat much. His advice was to give me vitamins. Good idea, but really not a substitute for good nutrition. I've been trying to cut out as much gluten as I can from my personal diet, it seems to help my tummy stay happy. I try to "healthify" regular food as I can. Using plain yogurt instead of oil to make muffins, and adding ground flax seed for added fiber and omega threes. Baby steps, and eventually healthy eating will become a habit for the rest of my life.

Being thin is nice, but healthy is more attractive. You have one body, you either use it or lose it. Exercise is good for the body and the soul.

I want to be in that kind of shape when I'm 70. There is no secret to being healthy. Eat real food, be active physically and mentally. It really is as simple as that. Too bad everything around us is trying to trip us up on our way to good health. We are all so busy with our live, it is easier to turn to fast food or processed food at the end of a long day of work. That is my challenge and I am making strides toward the healthy side. By pre-cooking healthy food for the week, I don't have to think about it when I get home after work. Baby steps.

Of course some personal time to recharge your batteries is always nice.

Day 16 and 17...

Well we got some major crappy weather the last two days. In the 40s and raining yesterday, and today started with rain, then the temperatures started dropping and the wind picked up and the rain turned to snow. Makes you want to curl up in front of the fire with some hot chocolate.

Did something new with the leftover turkey chili....

Beans, salsa, a little cheese and lettuce. It is actually really nice to be able to come home and have dinner ready in about ten minutes, depending on how fancy you feel like making it. Just warm it up and pour myself some sparkling water and, that's it, dinner is served.

This weather makes me seriously want to hibernate till spring....I like winter and snow and cold, but this rainy, freezing wet gross stuff I could live without.

Day 14 and 15

Been a little tired lately, probably need more sleep. Preferably in a bed as cozy as this one...to feed my mind, I've been looking at new ways to decorate our home...

If I had a dining room like this one, I'd be more inclined to eat there.

I could use a nice long soak in a tub like that.

I've actually done better with food, hardly any junk at all and even hardly any carbs. I made turkey chili friday night in the crockpot and tonight I put chicken breast and veggies in there to make chicken paprikash. So we will have plenty of healthy, flavorful, salt free and junk free food for the week. No rushing around trying to figure out what's for dinner. Better ways to feed my body.

And to feed my soul...a favorite quote from Henry David Thoreau...

Day 13.....TGIF

In case you can't tell....that is a happy dance. Had my yearly physical today and I am 10lbs lighter than last year. Woo Hoo! Hey, it's not much but it's better than being up 10lbs.

Dance! It's good for your body, and your soul!

I'm making turkey chili in the crock pot for this weekend. We have too much to do and not enough time. Sound familiar? :o) If I'm feeling really ambitious, I'll make corn bread to go with the chili.

Happy Weekend!

Holy Crap! I missed an entire day! I'll have to make up for it today then!
This is where I'd like to be...

This is what we got here today.....

The first snow of the year and everyone here is freaking out....it is January 12th...and we've had no real snow yet...let's talk to someone from Cordova or Valdez, Alaska about a lot of snow....they got over SIX FEET of snow in less than three days....we have about FOUR INCHES...

I actually did really well today with food...the highlight being lunch which was a small broiled chicken breast with 5 radishes, two large cherry tomatoes and two slices of a green pepper. Breakfast was yogurt with blueberries.

To feed my mind, I read three articles on how to improve business.

To feed my soul, I got super silly on Facebook with friends.

Now I'm going to bed at a decent hour. :o)

Had yogurt, a peanut butter bagel....really not much of an appetite today.

Listened to an inspiring cd on the way home from work.

Hugged my doggies.
